Improved Gridded Precipitation Data Derived from Microwave Link Attenuation

چکیده

The motivation for improving gridded precipitation data lies in weather now-casting and flood forecasting. Therefore, over the past decade, Commercial Microwave Link (CML) attenuation have been used to determine rain rates between microwave antennas, produce more accurate countrywide grids. CML networks offer a unique advantage measurements due their high density. However, these experience uncertainty from several sources as reported earlier research. This current work determines reliability of rainfall each link by comparing CML-derived adjusted radar at location, three months. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is applied pair CML/radar time-series two study areas, Israel Netherlands. Based on DTW amplitude temporal distance, unreliable links are identified flagged, interpolated derived country after filtering out those links. Correlations grids observations an independent set gauges, tested events both higher reliable subset than full set. For certain storm events, Kendall rank correlation almost double that complete set, demonstrating improved can be obtained removing

Estimating Historical California Precipitation Phase Trends Using Gridded Precipitation, Precipitation Phase, and Elevation Data

Climate change projections for California indicate reduction in the percentage of precipitation that falls as snow, and increase in the percentage that falls as rain, due to warmer temperatures in the future. Previous work has shown overall decreases in rainfall / snowfall ratios for the western US over the last 60 years. Of interest in this study is the quantification of snow/rain ratios for s...

Rainfall attenuation over terrestrial microwave link operating at 19

Rain induced attenuation at 19.4 & 28.75 GHz over a terrestrial path link of 2.29 km was measured for the period of one year in Amritsar (31 36 N 74 52E) environment. An empirical model for predicting rain-induced attenuation on terrestrial path link is proposed. Measured prediction has been compared with the recently prediction method proposed by the International Telecommunication union (ITU-...

Rain Attenuation Prediction for Terrestrial Microwave Link in Bangladesh

Rain attenuation is a major shortcoming of microwave transmission. As a subtropical country, Bangladesh is one of the highest rainy areas of the world. Thus, designing a terrestrial microwave link is a serious challenge to the engineers. In this paper, the annual rain rate and monthly variation of rate are predicted for different percentage of time of the year from the measured rainfall data. U...

Resolution Errors Associated with Gridded Precipitation Fields

Spatial-resolution errors are inherent in gridded precipitation (P ) fields – such as those produced by climate models and from satellite observations – and they can be sizeable when P is averaged spatially onto a coarse grid. They can also vary dramatically over space and time. In this paper, we illustrate the importance of evaluating resolution errors associated with gridded P fields by inves...

Determining the tropopause height from gridded data

[1] A method is presented to determine tropopause height from gridded temperature data with coarse vertical resolution. The algorithm uses a thermal definition of the tropopause, which is based on the concept of a ‘‘threshold lapse-rate’’. Interpolation is performed to identify the pressure at which this threshold is reached and maintained for a prescribed vertical distance. The method is verif...
